Punk rock began in the mid 1970’s, but it wasn’t until 1977 that is started to make an impact in the popular charts.  Punk rock is probably best known for the bands like The Clash and the Sex Pistols who took the world by storm with their revolutionary new take on music, and with the music came the fashion, gone were the side burns and the 70’s big hair, in came the Mohican and the tartan trousers along with the red braces and the Doc Martins.  For all the young who had a point to prove the punk rock era was possibly one of the best for getting your parents and the older generation to react.  Whilst the youth revelled in the new music and style the older generation cringed with embarrassment.

There have been many films which have been centred around the punk rock era, the most recent of which is This is England, which gives a realistic portrayal of life in the early 80’s the difficulties of bringing up children as a single parent, and the clash between mods and rockers. Sid and Nancy is another punk rock film about Sid Vicious and his girlfriend Nancy.  Sid was born to Anne and John Ritchie in London in 1957, his father worked as a guard at Buckingham Palace.  Sid Vicious became the bassist for punk rock band the Sex Pistols.  Although having an impact on young people and their lives through music, his life was cut shot due to an overdose of drugs in 1979

The punk rock era lasted until around 1985 and although people do still follow punk today it has never had that influential effect on teenagers as it did at the peak of its success in the late 1970’s early 1980’s.  Doc Martin boots are still available to buy, but people choose to wear them as an everyday or work garment rather than because it is fashionable.
